Vegan Food Guide: Austin, Texas

We were in Austin for a few days – click here to read my Best Weekend Guide for an itinerary – and was fortunate to consume a ton of DELICIOUS vegan food. Here is a list of our top 7 restaurants you need to try!!

The list is alphabetized by restaurant name. Please keep in mind these are the restaurants we tried during our three-day stay. We are sure that there are several places we left off this list! If you have a favorite spot, please leave a comment down below to let us know!

  • Arlo's | 900 Red River St, Austin, TX 78702 - Arlo’s serves vegan comfort food in a bistro style setting for the Austin nightlife scene. They support local, organic, and non-GMO products. Their food is designed to satisfy omnivores and herbivores alike. We like to order the Bac'n Cheeze Burger. The patty is house-made, soy/gluten free, and is topped with setian bac'n, melted cheeze, mayo, ketchup, mustard, tomatoes, onions, pickles and lettuce.

  • Bouldin Creek Cafe | 1900 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704 - We visited Austin twice, and each time we ate at Bouldin Creek Cafe. If you love flavorful breakfast tacos, you can find them here! We like to order The Renedict. It comes with tofu scramble, tomatoes, tofu bacon on a grilled ciabatta. The dish is topped with spinach & house-made vegan hollandaise. You can choose to eat this as depicted or in a taco!! See the image above and below.

  • Capital Bakery | 2211 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702 - This bakery is great for 100% vegan cupcakes and assorted desserts. Their daily menu items include Rice Krispie Treats, Cinnamon Rolls, Sausage Jalapeno Cheese Kolache, and more. You can pick anything on the menu...everything is great.

  • Grizzelda's | 105 Tillery St, Austin, TX 78702 - For Mexican cuisine in a chic, modern space with rustic accents, head over to Grizzelda's in East Austin. This place reminds us of the beach and has a great cocktail list. We love to order the Coliflora Frito. The entree is made out of cauliflower, mole, pickled coriander, guajillo vinaigrette, cotija crisp. BE SURE to take off the cotija crip (cheese) to make the dish vegan.

  • Lenoir | 1807 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704 - Okay, so this restaurant isn't specifically for vegans, but they do have options for us. Lenior is a local farm to table restaurant with a wine garden. Yes, a wine garden! This restaurant is a little expensive, but please treat yourself by eating a three-course meal here. Our favorite course was the Texas Bean Salad. It came with avocado, charred leeks, puffed rice, romesco and nopales.

  • Vegan Nom | 1807 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704 - For some tasty Tex-Mex inspired tacos, GO HERE. Vegan Nom is Texas' first all vegan taco truck located in Austin. They also serve tacos all day. This is a plus because the vegan migas taco was the best thing we ever ate.

  • Via 313 | 1111 E 6th St, Austin, TX 78702 - Craving Detroit style pizza? Head over to Via 313 to order an individual pizza baked to perfection. There are vegan and gluten-free options as well. We got a pizza topped with arugula, garlic, tomato, caramelized onions and mushrooms. Be sure to save some room for dessert. Their cinnamon sticks are not only vegan but taste heavenly too.
