What Taylor Likes Happy Hour: Shenaniganz and Q&A with Owner

If you love bowling, go-carts, laser tag, mini-golf and more then you must check out Shenaniganz.

This month we had the pleasure of hosting a fantastic happy hour at Shenaniganz. It was so much fun! From zooming down the speedway in a go-cart to relaxing in the sports bar, Shenaniganz was the perfect location for our meet up.

We kicked off the Happy Hour with introductions and appetizers. Many attendees enjoyed the BBQ Ribs, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. We relished the Bruschetta. It was served to us on a Himalayan Salt Block! How delicious does that sound?!

After drinks and appetizers, we headed to Escapology.

Escapology is the country’s leading live escape room games. An escape room is filled with hidden clues and puzzles. Every piece of evidence that you solve will lead to a key. Each key that you collect will help you solve the mystery and get you out of the room you are locked in. The best part is that each room is centered around a theme!

Our group of bloggers loved the Budapest Express room. We had to collect clues and solve the murder of Sir Clarence. After the escape room, bloggers got to bowl and eat dinner in the stylish Z Lounge. We even took a spin around the track in go-carts and chased each other with lasers!

We had the opportunity of chatting with Parker Coddington, Partner & Owner of Shenaniganz. Keep scrolling to read this Q&A!

Q: How did you get your idea or concept for Shenaniganz?

A: Shenaniganz is owned & operated by our family - six siblings, and of course Mom and Dad (aka Tom & Hazel Ripp). Growing up, we were always playing & competing together. We played everything from board games and Turkey Bowls to challenging each other in hearts, bowling, etc. Also, our parents always extolled the values of working for yourself.

Finally, East Dallas, Mesquite, Rockwall & Garland had a lack of options for people to spend quality time with friends and family. Combine those three things, and you get Shenaniganz.

Q: When did you charter the business?

A: Shenaniganz Rockwall opened in December 2008. Shenaniganz Greenville opened in August 2013.

Q: What is your mission?

A: Busy people struggle to find ways to spend quality time with friends and family, so we created a place with fun stuff to do, great food & drink, and an upscale atmosphere all under one roof so they can make memories together.

Q: What are the goals for your company?

A: To be the number one choice for people looking to make memories, celebrate or have fun with friends, families & co-workers.

Q: What is unique about your business? A: 1) Shenaniganz offers a high quantity of top end attractions with great food in an upscale environment, all under one roof #ParkOnce. 2) We never sacrifice guest experience for the bottom-line. 3) The staff treats you like family because we treat them like family.

Q: Where can your customers find Shenaniganz?

A: 20 minutes east of downtown Dallas on I-30 in Rockwall, TX and our second location is in Greenville, TX.

Q:Why did you choose those locations?

A: Both sites were conveniently located on a major interstate (I-30) in markets that were underserved for entertainment.

Q: How do you advertise your business?

A: Almost all our advertising is now digital. We have separate campaigns targeting past guests and targeting people who’ve maybe never been to Shenaniganz before. For our corporate & group events, we have a great sales team.

Q: To what do you attribute your success?

A: First, there’s no Shenaniganz and thus no successful Shenaniganz if our parents didn’t believe in us enough to invest in the project. Second, Mike Auger and the team at Trifecta Management Group did an incredible job helping us not only develop the concept but helping us open back in 2008. And for the past 9+ years, we have had an incredible group of team members working with us. They are the ones that keep our guests coming back time and time again. Our Rockwall GM, Andrew Huffman, has been with us since day one and does an incredible job.

Q: If you had one piece of advice for young entrepreneurs, what would it be?

A: Make decisions and take action. Don’t let agonizing over and analyzing what is the best or perfect decision delay you from taking a course of action that is very good. The truth is there are a lot of ways to skin a cat and almost never a way to know what the BEST way is. The sooner you make a decision, the sooner you can monitor & measure how it goes, and the sooner you can course correct based on that info. We love spending time at Shenaniganz. In fact, we are already looking forward to our next visit! Thank you to all the bloggers that came and Shenaniganz for providing complimentary drinks, appetizers, and fun!
