We are back with another Formulate blog post! When first talked about Formulate in our first review. We loved the product so much that we ordered the shampoo and conditioner again. Seriously, it is the only brand we use these days.

It is rare that we find a shampoo or conditioner that we fully support. As curly headed individuals we only use sulfate-free products on our hair but even those items leave our hair too dry. Formulate is the most hydrating shampoo and conditioner that we HAVE EVER USED. It is the truth.

Formulate mission is creating shampoo and conditioner, perfectly engineered just for you. It is formulated based on your hair and environment. Haha, get it “formulated?” Anyways, if they can create a personalized shampoo and conditioner for us and our hair goals then we are going to try it!
No more shopping and evaluating mass-produced products? Have control over the formula and ingredients? This sounds like a dream. We were wondering if this was too good to be true.
Before we get into our thoughts and review, let us tell you about the company.
What is Formulate?
Formulate is a company that brought industry-leading chemists & engineers together to create technology that formulates based on your unique characteristics and the efficacy of our growing list of ingredients. Every formula is preservative free, sulfate free, paragon free, and cruelty-free.
A customized formula for your hair is important because it puts an end to the costly guess and test process, buying overpriced products, and waste.
The Process and Review
Once you sign up, you start the process by taking your hair quiz. This step is really cool! They ask you questions about your environment, lifestyle, current hair, scalp condition, and hair care goals. The Formulate team works with the information given in the quiz to create your personalized formula.
Once you get the products in the mail and start using them, be sure to let the team know if you want to make any changes to your formula. If there is something off after the first 6 washes or so, they will adjust your ingredients and ship you the new formula free of charge. FREE OF CHARGE.
Review
As we stated above, Formulate's products are paraben free, sulfate free, and cruelty free. It takes 7-10 days for the team to create your personalized hair care and ship it to you. The shampoo and conditioner comes in sleek 14 oz geometric pump bottles. 14 oz is a pretty large size for us! We were able to use it for 2-3 months before repurchasing.
Formulate retails at $49 for both, or $29 for just the shampoo or conditioner. Both only come in 14oz sizes (we were a little disappointed in this because we wanted the conditioner to come in a bigger size). The directions say to use 3-4 pumps of product. A little goes a long way so you don't have to worry about running out too quickly.
We wash our hair every other day or every three days. We workout for an hour and sweat in our scalp so washing it often is necessary. Our first impression of the product was that the shampoo was really hydrating. It was so light and buttery that we went ahead and started detangling our curls with a tangle teezer in the shower!! The detangling process took 10 minutes versus our normal 30. That is mind-blowing.
Today, the shampoo is still working for us. The hair doesn’t feel striped and dry after cleansing. The conditioner was moisturizing as well. We could feel it protecting our dry and damaged locks.
The scent is also amazing. When you sign up to make your customized formula, there are 7 scents to pick from...all ranging from clean to fruity smelling. Our scent smells like what we selected - freshly squeezed tangerines and oranges.
Final thoughts
Overall we love our Formulate shampoo and conditioner! Our hair goals are to mend splits, prevent thinning, straightening, lengthening and deep conditioning. We feel like our formula is helping us get closer to these goals. Our hair is softer and less frizzy with continual use. Honestly, we would buy it over and over. The only con we have is that we wished the condition came in a bigger size (curly hair takes up a lot of product).
A lot of people said that they didn't find the right formula on the first try. Our formula was perfect from the start, but if you experience this don't forget to tell the Formulate team. They can change it and ship it to you for free!
