24 Hours in New York City - Your Unique One-Day Itinerary

24 hours in New York City?! Is that even possible? We went to New York City for a family trip and was supposed to spend the whole weekend there. After several flight delays and cancelations later, we were able to fly from Dallas to New York. However, we could only spend 24 hours in the city. Literally. We landed at 6:00 a.m. and left the next day at 6:00 a.m.

It was unbelievable. We saved the whole debacle on @whattaylorlikes Instagram’s page. Just look for the “NYC Highlight.” We also vlogged the whole trip, of course. That video will be uploaded to this post and out vlogs page soon.

New York City is famously known as the city that never sleeps. Clearly, we were able to fit right in. This unique one-day itinerary is packed with activities and places that are off the beaten path. Let us know if you try anything listed down below.

Your Unique One-Day Itinerary

8:00-9:00am Coffee: Head to Coffee n Clothes, a fashion-inspired cafe. I got a basic cafe latte, which was not exciting, but the interesting part was the fact that you can pick out different designer brands to get placed on your coffee. I went with Gucci but they have others like Hermes and Dior.

The interior decor is super cute and fun. The cafe, however, is small so you wouldn't want to spend the whole day working here. It is worth the visit though. So just grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!

Pro Tip: It is kinda hard to find, but the entrance to the cafe is off Lafayette and Jones Alley. We saw multiple celebrities walking around this area so keep your eyes open! ($3-8)

Location: 11 Bond Street New York, NY 10002

9:00-10:00am Activity 1: In order to get to the next activity, we decided to take public transit because...why not! To get to Palette at BG, take Subway (Broadway - Lafayette St Station > F to Queens. After 7 stops, get off at 57th) to Central Park. You will arrive by 9:30am.

If this is your first time in New York City, walk around Central Park for 30 minutes then head to Palette. ($2.75)

10:00am Activity 2: We are BIG fans of the New Orleans-based artist, Ashley Longshore. We went to her gallery in New Orleans (you can view that guide here). When we found out the she collaborated Palette we had to come visit.

Palette at BG is part art gallery, part cafe located on the Beauty Level of Bergdorf Goodman. Palette is open daily for brunch, lunch, and drinks. We just came to have mimosas but you can get an entree if you like ($10-15)

Location: 754 5th Ave, New York, NY 10019

11:15am - 12:30pm Lunch: For lunch we went to Pilot, located at Brooklyn Bridge Park. This restaurant is on a vintage boat docked at the pier. They serving oysters & other seafood with cocktails & wines.

Pilot is not vegan but they have 1-2 options. We went for brunch and got the tomato and watermelon dish and avocado toast. To drink, we ordered the permanent vacation and it was strong!

Pro Tip: You will want to make reservations and arrive right when they open. When you get there, request to be seated under the covering. The sun gets pretty harsh and you'll want to in the shade. Also, the boat can pretty rocky so prepared if you get motion sickness.. ($15-30)

Location: Pier 6 Brooklyn Bridge Park, Brooklyn, NY 11201

12:45- 1:45 Activity 2: Go see the famous DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).

People flock to Washington Street between Front and Water Streets to capture a shot that features Dumbo’s cobblestone streets, the Manhattan Bridge, and the Empire State Building. There are tons and tons of people here to take a photo so go right after lunch.

Location: 40-58 Washington St, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

2:00-3:30pm Activity 1: See an architectural wonder by visiting The Vessel is an interactive sculpture in the Hudson Yards. We got a flex pass for $10 per person in order to be able to book the date of our choice up to six months in advance and arrive at the time that day that was best for us.

If you don't want to pay $10, no problem. They have FREE same day time-specific tickets. All free tickets are issued on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are distributed for the next available timeslot and allow for a one-time entrance during your assigned timeslot.

Free seems great and all but tickets book up fast. So either book a couple months in advance or get the flex pass.

Location: The Shops and Restaurants at Hudson Yards, New York, NY 10001

4:00 - 5:00pm Happy Hour 1: Grab drinks at Mace. Mace Cocktail bar is THE place you want to go to for interesting, quality drinks. The inside is small, but don't judge a book by its cover. The drinks are tasty and very unique. We haven't had anything like it. Our top three favorites were the Sencha, Mace, and Cardamon:

- The Sencha cocktail was made out of Demezcal, Campari, sweet vermouth and Samurai Chai Sencha. It was sweet but not too sweet.

- The Mace cocktail was a harmonious blend Aperol, aquavit, beet juice, orange acid, young Thai coconut cordial, and mace mist.

- The Cardamom cocktail was a mix of cardamom-infused reposado tequila, coconut yogurt, mango syrup, and lime juice. I didn't taste this drink but my friend did. She said it tasted like a delicious, refreshing smoothie!

If you are vegan like us then you'll appreciate Mace's menu. They denote which drinks are vegan and which drinks contain dairy. The Sencha and Mace cocktails are both vegan! Woo!

Highly recommend Mace to anyone that wants to expand their palate and taste cocktails that are not typical in New York City ($15-30)

Location: 505 E 12th St, New York, NY 10009

6:00pm Happy Hour 2: If you can hang, stop by Pietro Nolita for a few drinks. It is a cozy 1950s-style bar/eatery with a pink motif. Their whole restaurant saying is, "Pink as Fuck" and we are here for it!

The entire place is pink and super cute. We didn't eat here but you can! The tables around us got delicious-looking dishes that were Italian inspired.

Pro Tip: Be careful taking photos inside the restaurant. The owner does not want you using flash or taking photos with a DSLR, which was a bummer for us ($15-30)

Location: 174 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10012

8:00pm Dinner: For a sophisticated vegan meal, you must go to Avant Garden. They serve up refined vegan dishes in a snug, brick-walled eatery with a branch chandelier. It has major vibes!

We tried so many dishes. If you go consider trying the cremini mushroom toast, paella and the house made spaghetti.

Highly suggest that you make a reservation. If not, then you will be waiting for a long time ($15-50 depending on how many drinks and dishes you get)

Location: 130 E 7th Street, New York, NY 10009
