MOTHER"S DAY
A Poem By Taylor
I didn’t post a cute picture or a meaningful message on my social media accounts for Mother’s Day because I wanted to express my gratitude on a random day like today!
For some families, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters, Mother’s Day is the only day in which we celebrate motherhood, maternal bonds, and the grave impact mothers have on our culture. In 46 countries around the world, Mother’s Day is commemorated with special dinners, gifts, cakes, and flowers. While Mother’s Day is great, it occurs once a year. All the love, laughs and hugs fall to wayside the next day.
To remind my mom - and all the other mothers out there – that she is everlastingly loved, I am picking a random day like today to say THANK YOU. So hey mom, I wrote a poem to lighten your day. I hope you enjoy reading it in this month of May.
Thank you mom
For all the sacrifices you made
You want the best for me
And I know that is what you prayed
You have my back
Even if I am wrong
You love me
Even when we don’t get along
Whether they are silly or sensible
You help me overcome my fears
You hold up a box of tissues
To wipe away my streaming tears
I know that you care
With all of your might
You gave me life
And you encourage me see the light
You are tender and kind
I wouldn’t want anyone to take your place
If people talk back to you
I will spray them with mace
Thank You Mom
For simply being you
Every week I want to celebrate Mother’s Day
Even when you have the flu
Love you Mom (all my other Moms),
Tay

A letter to Dad: Fatherlessness and Its Impact On Me
April 07, 2016
While I tried to ignore my reality, I have come to grips with the fact that I do suffer from the palpable emotional and physical absence of my father. Being Depressed in Your Post-Grad Era: My Feelings & How I Survived
March 17, 2016
In a post from October I listed five horrific realities of adulthood that completely slapped and punched me in the face. While I covered everything from paying bills to my social life enigma, there are some things that I did not talk about. I did not share the emotional turmoil I went through as a post-grad and how I overcame the side effects. Thus, I am writing this as a “follow up” post to not only go into detail about how I felt but also to discuss the methods I used to remind myself how AMAZING I am despite my dishearten circumstance...
I Was Racially Profiled
March 10, 2016
When I entered the store I expected to find my things quickly, receive great customer service via the cashier and leave. I did not, however, expect to be racially profiled by the manager in charge. I did not expect to experience marketplace discrimination and consumer racism at the age of 18. That summer I did not expected to encounter the phrase “shopping while black.”
