Deep Drive Into Pinterest: Part Two

Updated: Oct 5, 2020

Taylor Talks - 9/14/2020

Last time we talked about how you can use Pinterest to your advantage, rich pins, and more! Deep Drive Into Pinterest: Part Two will focus on seasonal trends, what you need to pin to get traffic to your page, blog, etc.

Tip #2 Know what to pin

Use insights

What Taylor Likes publishes new seasonal content based on audience insights on a regular basis. Make sure to keep an eye on your insights page so you always have the latest information on what your audience wants to see from you. Use Pinterest Analytics or Tailwind Analytics to learn about your Pinterest audience.

Seasonal trends - THIS IS KEY!

When it comes to holiday or seasonal events, What Taylor Likes and our audience uses Pinterest to plan ahead of time. Pinterest is a search and discovery platform, users go there to gather ideas, research, and plan future projects. They put enter search terms into the search box in the hopes of finding what they are looking for.

So you want to start pinning seasonal content about 30-45 days in advance. Activity will keep picking up as you get closer to the date. If I am looking ahead, I will plan my Pinterest content for November right now! Here are the top keywords and searched for November. You want to create content around some or all of these topics for the most traffic:

Thanksgiving — Thanksgiving dinner, decor, side dish, dessert, specialty diets (whole 30, skinny, gluten-free) kid-friendly crafts, games, tablescapes, games, etc.

Black Friday & Cyber Monday— You don't have to be a fashion blogger to promote Black Friday! Take this time to teach your readers how to find deals, best sites, and resources for whatever they are interested in...this could be home decor, kitchen equipment, etc.

Gift Ideas — Roundup guides are great for this!

Travel — Thanksgiving is one of the highest volume traffic days in the US. With coronavirus, more people will be taking short trips by car. Now is a great time to share tips for isolated travel, hidden gems that are a short distance away from a major city, and other hacks.

Linking Pins

When someone clicks on your Pin, they want a direct link to that recipe, blog post and etc. You can link Pins to your site, blog, or any other website as long as it is a natural progression from the Pin. Pins that feature a product should link to a page where people can buy that product.

If we are looking ahead to November, for example, link your pin to content that is directly related to the topics discussed above.

Your pins and other people's pins

People ask, "Do I Pin my Pins or other people's Pins?" Your Pinterest boards are there to highlight your brand. 70-80% of the content on the boards should be your own. However, you can Pin someone else's Pins if you think it is relevant to your boards. For example, I have a Ski Season board because we are going on a blog ski trip. We will not be able to Pin ski content until after the trip so we Pin other peoples Pins in the meantime.
